Fuel cells which expected as the energy source for the next generation produce electricity by reacting hydrogen and oxygen without carbon dioxide emission to be problematic of global warming. We have developed a device that produce hydrogen from waste aluminum. Hydrogen and sodium aluminate is derived by adding sodium hydroxide to the waste aluminum. Aluminum hydroxide which is the industrial raw materials such as soap is obtained from sodium aluminate. Unreacted sodium hydroxide is recycled to the process.
Products | Bunker A equivalent*1 | Carbon dioxide equivalent*1 | |
---|---|---|---|
Hydrogen | 920 million Nm3 | 85,000 kL | 223,000 t |
Thermal energy | 120 TJ | 303,000 kL | 795,000 t |
Aluminum hydroxide | 2,230,000t | 33,000 t |
※Aluminum hydroxide production is 180,000 t/year
